The KESE7 Workshop

Aims and Scope

The KESE logo (c) 2008 by WTF Intelligent systems have been successfully developed in various domains based on techniques and tools from the fields of knowledge engineering and software engineering. Thus, declarative software engineering techniques have been established in many areas, such as knowledge systems, logic programming, constraint programming, and lately in the context of the Semantic Web and business rules.

The seventh workshop on Knowledge Engineering and Software Engineering (KESE7) is held at the CAEPIA 2011 (Conference of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence), in La Laguna (Tenerife), Spain, and wants to bring together researchers and practitioners from both fields of software engineering and artificial intelligence, as well as the Semantic Web community. The intention is to give ample space for exchanging latest research results as well as knowledge about practical experience. This year we also encourage to submit tool presentations, i.e., system descriptions that clearly show the interaction between knowledge engineering and software engineering research and practice. The previous KESE Workshops were held at the German Conference on Artificial Intelligence (KI) since 2005. See the KESE workshop series page for more information.

Topics of Interest

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Knowledge and software engineering for the Semantic Web
  • Ontologies in practical knowledge and software engineering
  • Business Rules design and management
  • Practical knowledge representation and discovery techniques in software engineering
  • Agent-oriented software engineering
  • Database and knowledge base management in AI systems
  • Evaluation and verification of intelligent systems
  • Practical tools for intelligent systems engineering
  • Process models in AI applications
  • Software requirements and design for AI applications
  • AI approaches in software engineering process
  • Declarative, logic-based approaches
  • Constraint programming approaches

Call for Tool Presentations

This year we strongly encourage the submission of tool presentation papers, i.e., system descriptions that clearly show the interaction between knowledge engineering and software engineering research and practice. Such papers have to be explicitly identified as tool presentation.

Submission Details

Papers should be formatted according to the Springer LNCS guidelines. The length should not exceed 10 pages (including figures and references). All papers must be written in English and submitted in PDF format. Please submit your paper via EasyChair: (http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=caepia2011) (more instructions about the submission process will be added soon).

The submitted papers will be reviewed by three members of the program committee. A comfortable time slot for discussions will be given. Accepted contributions will be published in the two volumes of the conference proceedings: one published by Springer (LNAI series) containing a selection of the best papers and one published by Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence with the rest of the accepted papers.

It is planned that accepted contributions also appear as CEUR Workshop Proceedings (CEUR-WS.org) (pending).

Important Dates

The KESE7 workshop will take place at the Conference of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence CAEPIA 2011, in La Laguna (Tenerife), Spain.

The important dates are as follows:

Paper submission deadline: May 15, 2011
Notification of paper acceptance: June 30, 2011
Camera ready copy submission: July 31, 2011
Workshop: one day, Nov. 7-11, 2011

Organization

The one-day workshop will be held with presentations of accepted papers. English is the official language of the workshop. A comfortable time slot for discussions will be given. It is planned to publish the proceedings as part of the two volumes of CAEPIA 2011 conference proceedings before the workshop, and as CEUR Workshop Proceedings (CEUR-WS.org) later on (pending).
